Tootsie Roll, known for its chewy chocolaty flavor
, is actually the first wrapped penny candy in America. Its inventor, Leo Hirshfield, named it after his five-year-old daughter whose nickname was 'Tootsie.' From a small candy store in New York in 1896, the Tootsie Roll business (Tootsie Roll Industries) grew to become one of America's largest candy companies, not to mention the world's largest lollipop supplier. To date, Tootsie Roll Industries produces over sixty million Tootsie Rolls and at least twenty million Tootsie Pops per day.

Tootsie Roll continually evolved and flourished to be a franchise, acquiring other candy brands such as Mason Dots, Crows, Charms, Charleston Chew, Sugar Daddy, Sugar Babies, Junior Mints, Andes Candies and Blow Pop. As Tootsie Roll celebrates its 109th anniversary, it's proud to retain not only its appeal as a nostalgic candy brand but also its distinct taste which satisfied our palates for the past century.
