Star Trek: The Animated Series is an animated sci-fi spin-off of the live Star Trek series. Also set in the Star Trek universe, this TV series lasted for two seasons (September 1973 to October 1974) with a total of 22 half-hour episodes.

Star Trek: The Animated Series was produced by Filmation under Paramount Pictures. It featured the voices of most of its original cast, whose characters also appear in the said animated series. Its episodes, which were believed to take place during the last year of NCC-1701’s five-year mission, were also written by the writers of the original show. Although short-lived, Star Trek: The Animated Series proved to be an essential addition to the Star Trek family by providing essential information and references to some characters of the show, which were eventually utilized in the franchise’s succeeding sequels and films.
