The Simpsons is currently one of the longest running animated television series with 17 seasons and at least 358 episodes since it debuted on Fox on December 17, 1989. Created by Matt Groening originally for The Tracey Ullman Show, The Simpsons has successfully captured the attention of millions of viewers as well as critics, thus earning for itself 21 Emmy Awards, 22 Annie Awards, a Peabody and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on January 14, 2000. The said animated series was also named by Time magazine as the best television series of the 20th century in 1998.

The Simpsons centers on the antics of the typical American family: Homer and Marge, their children Bart, Lisa and Maggie, each equipped with different strengths and personalities. The colorful citizens of Springfield and occasional guest stars also add flavor to the show. Highly satirical and culturally influenced, the episodes of The Simpsons focus on the adventures & mishaps of particular family members, frequently Homer. They also tackle factual social issues, based on the call of the times. The Simpsons has already signed up for its 20th season and a full length movie based on the series is scheduled for release under 20th Century Fox by 2008.
